"Ethereal Plains?! That's supposed to be planes, right?"
Well, long ago when the internet corruption of "domain craze" finally set itself upon me, I, being a person who likes creative titles, wondered what to name this place that wasn't already registered. Some of you who play PC games may remember the Zork series. One of these Zork-themed games is called "Zork Grand Inquisitor". I won't get into the entire detail of the story behind the game, or the plot of it, but the domain name kind of comes from there.

The Ethereal Plane of Atrii in Zork was a sort of parallel universe used by Enchanters, commonly shared by lost gym socks and GUE Tech, the Enchanter's school. I loved the idea of a place like that and imagined that my webpage, which used to be a hodgepodge of different things (anyone remember the design with the lava lamp? Raise your hand!), would fit in quite well on the Ethereal Plane, right next to the gym socks. Though of course it doesn't stink. Or at least I don't think so.

So why etherealplains.com instead of etherealplanes.com? At the time - and this was long, long ago - it was taken. I have no idea if it still is. I suppose I could go check. But in either case, I ended up choosing plains as the spelling. Later on in my life, when that domain ran out, I switched over to a .com. People are still confused enough over THAT without changing the spelling, too. And that, as they say, is that.

"This looks nothing like Zork!"
Yes, yes, I know. Well, the site has come a very long way with me, through a slew of different design changes. I doubt we're looking at the same design now that it will appear as in the future, even. About every two years I hack the site to pieces, pull my hair out re-learning html and css, and have a go at making something new. The current design is a try at something clean, that doesn't use anyone else's graphics. So far, so good.

"Lava Lamp!?"
You do not want to know. Trust me. Just trust me.

"So, about this site design of yours..."
This site was designed in Photoshop 7.0. The font I've used here is called Notepad. Rights go to me for the artwork you see at the side of the page. It updates when a new painting is finished, and possibly colors on the site change then, too. I have no idea, it'll depend on what I paint next. In fact, any artwork you see is mine exclusively, or I'll tell you if it isn't. Which means don't steal it, or ... well, I swear bad things upon you. Bad, bad things. Also, all the writing is mine unless I say so. Don't steal that, either.

This site has been designed with a resolution of 800x600 or higher in mind. It will load in 640x480, but it won't be pretty. It SHOULD expand to the size of larger browser windows. I suggest browsing on this site in IE 7, or the newest distribution of Mozilla Firefox. It was designed with the highest colour setting out there, and will look a bit different if you're surfing here on a mac, the RGB renders brighter. By the way, I can't say how it loads in Opera or Safari. The possibility that it'll break in these, or earlier browsers, is large.

"How often do you update this place?"
I will be doing my level best to update this place as *soon* as any new work is completed. I'm working on a new comic project, so there may be some current sketches or 'speed paints' posted to the 'current' table on my main page. When the comic's live - assuming it ever goes live - there'll be a link. There are currently some plans in place for a new painting, but finding employment, moving, this comic, and adminning a forum are taking up most of my time. Writing is more likely to be updated.

"Stephanie Stahecki? That sounds like quite a mouthful."

Try getting your teachers to pronounce it correctly. I had to coach the principle when it came time to graduate High School, just so he would call my name right come diploma time. It's actually pronounced exactly as it's spelled. Sta-HECK-ee.

Anyway, I was born in Rhode Island and spent most of my life in Connecticut. I lived in Seattle for a while and I miss it. I spent a semester in LA and I miss that, too. I currently reside in Connecticut with my family and my cat, Peregrine Took, who is every bit as much trouble as his namesake.

"Do you have any inspirations?"
I'm heavily inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, japanese manga and anime, and video games. I am also inspired by other very good artists like Ursula Vernon, Randal Spangler, Stephanie Law, Fred Gallagher (a.k.a "Piro") from Megatokyo, Ian of Mac Hall fame, etc. Additionally, I take a lot of inspiration, color and light-wise, from the nature and environments around me. Many of my stories and pictures are inspired by the events of my various RPG characters - in fact, that's what that comic idea is about.

"Did you go to school for this?"
In a word: yes. I have a BA in Graphic Design from Regis College for Women, a tiny little college in Weston, MA. I got that degree about fifty-five thousand years ago, however. I am very, very rusty. I don't use it, and probably never will... which ties into our next question.

"Why are you working (this place here) instead of getting a career?!"
Ah, this question. If I had a dime for every time I answered this...I'd have a lot of dimes. The answer: I don't much like the idea of being forced to make a living off creativity. I tried it for a while, and may very well try it again - I HAVE looked, here and there, at design or illustration jobs in the area. But the truth is that right now, I'm rusty AND getting older, and the prospects are slim. Plus, the muse, She is very very squirrely. And the work, it's not so great without the Muse.

I currently am unemployed, which isn't so bad. I used to work at Wal-mart, which is Hell on earth, but at least I could survive just about anything now.

"Any personal stuff you'd like to share?"
I'm female, an Aries, and a gamer chick. My favorite color is purple. My favorite food is a nice, juicy steak. Coffee is my life blood. Yes, I really am female, and yes, by 'games' I mean things like Halo and Half-Life, World of Warcraft, etc. Not flash games from Yahoo. I am a complete and total Tolkien Geek. Any other more personal stuff, like my religion and who I'm voting for president, is none of your business. Unless you know where to find my livejournal. ;)
